This is the first Academy Award nomination for Carey Mulligan (25). The pixiesque beauty stars in the coming of age story of a 16 year old girl in the 1960’s suburb of Twickenham, London. Although the film was not successful at the box office, Mulligan won wide critical appraisal for her role in An Education, and her performance won her a BAFTA award.
She got her first film role playing Kitty Bennet, one of the giggly Pride and Prejudice (2005) sisters, where she played along Keira Knightley and Donald Sutherland.
She once took a job as a runner in a film studio and after spotting Al Pacino whilst rehearsing for the Merchant of Venice (2004), she said of the experience:” Wow! That's why I am here! One day Al Pacino is going to ask me for a cup of tea and notice my potential. And then I am going to skyrocket!”.
Mulligan has been dating actor Shia LaBeouf (you might remember him from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) since August 2009 when they started filming Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) together.
